What our Brethren Say

Aaron Garner

I moved to the wonderful Province of East Lancashire from Cambridgeshire in early 2019, and I was looking to find a way of socialising to meet new people. I saw an advert in a magazine about Freemasonry and as a L&D professional, the strap line grabbed me… “Making good men, better”. Self-development is a personal and professional passion of mine so, after contacting the PGLEL, I spent time at social boards and was finally initiated into the amazing Maccabee Lodge 8947 in Manchester where I was welcomed with open arms.

I joined Freemasonry in 2018 after watching the documentary shown on sky the year before. I was looking for a group of friends who I could have a shared experience with and take part in an activity that would help me grow.

I love the history and what freemasonry stands for in the modern world, I am very proud to be part of that future and its community

I joined Freemasonry because I ascertained that its core principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth were directly in sync with my values which have been a long foundation in my life’s journey. These values not only strengthen bonds within the fraternity but also inspire our brethren to lead with compassion and authenticity in their daily lives. I believe embracing these values offers a lasting path for my personal growth and community impact

I thoroughly enjoy going to the lodge and I enjoy every meeting immensely, as well as taking part in the rituals and ceremonies. To join a brotherhood like this is a very special thing to do because there is nothing quite like it in life. I’ve become not only part of an amazing history but what I also hope will be a very exciting future.

Freemasonry is a lifestyle which allowed me to be who I am, and develop my skills as a person and a Brother. It’s a daily path to improving, upholding the eagerness to be part of something bigger. It integrated traditional values such as honesty, integrity, and charity.

Working (owning) a local shop id delivered a few times to Mossley Masonic Hall and as you do ask a few questions as to what goes on in there … Then as time went on I started to realise a few customers were masons, I asked one particular guy what goes on at masonic meetings and without asking he just booked me in as a visiting guest to a social board
Nervous of meeting all these posh old guys in suits I was pleasantly surprised when the best explanation for the social board was school dinner time !!!

I joined Freemasonry in 2020, and swiftly came to realise I had been living the values without knowing it for over 30 years – I wish I’d joined sooner, but always thought you had to know a Freemason to become a Freemason.

Meeting like-minded brothers from all walks of life has been fantastic, I’ve made some firm friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.

Improving as a person and learning more about myself all the time, it is amazing to see the friendship and support amongst us that is continuously spread to the wider community./p>Improving as a person and learning more about myself all the time, it is amazing to see the friendship and support amongst us that is continuously spread to the wider community.
